Excursion 1 – Vestmanna Bird cliffs
The rich bird life, cliff sides and caves are some of the things that makes the Vestmanna bird cliffs among the most popular attractions in the Faroe Islands.
The village of Vestmanna is sailed out to the famous bird mountains and caves. Weather permitting, sail through narrow straits into deep caves, shaped by the surf for millions of years, and close to the over 600 meters high vertical cliffs where thousands of seabirds breed.
Excursion 2 – Mykines,the bird island
Mykines is the Faroe Islands’ most western placed island. Though, this is not what it is best known for. Here you will find a true bird paradise with thousands of birds. Among these birds you will find the puffin which is one of the popular motives for photographers visiting.
Also, this island is very popular for hikers. Especially the hike to Mykineshólmur, an islet, across a minor bridge on 40 meters over a deep cleft which connects the islet to the rest of the island.
On this hike you will experience the free standing sea stacks, and immeasurable number of birds & some great view points.
Excursion 3 – Gjógv
Gjógv is the most northern village on the island of Eysturoy, named after the 200-metre long sea-filled gorge that runs from the village and into the ocean. Nominated by the Nordic Council, for the Nature & Environmental award in 201, this beautiful quiet and well preserved village is idyllically located, closed in the mountains to all sides. With less than 50 inhabitants, all living in old timber-walled and turf-roofed cottages, Gjógv has an abundance of charm and appeal. A must for your stay in the Faroe Islands.
Excursion 4 – Saksun; Splendidly set in a natural circular amphitheater high above a tidal lagoon, Saksun is a wonderfully remote hillside village and is one of the most worthwhile destinations in the country. Known for its tranquil atmosphere, the tiny village of 14 inhabitants offers amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
The village includes a church, built in 1858 and Dúvugarðar, an active sheep farm which also functions as a museum.
Excursion 5 – Cave concert with schooner, Norðlýsið
Experience the island of Hestur with the magical cave Klæmintsgjógv which creates the settings for the world famous cave concerts – Concerto grotto! These concerts are performed live by local famous musicians and on different instruments. The concerts are all different, also because of natures complicity with the breezing sea and the caves echo effects. It can be quiet where you will hear the birds accompany the music, and others times when the heavy sounds from the waves breezing against the cliffs, which will give you another experience.
These cave concerts find place during the summer season, performed by different Faroese musicians on different instruments.
